Snorkel Mexico Rocks

Snorkel Mexico Rocks

This snorkeling tour brings you to an underwater formation called Mexico Rocks, which is part of the much larger Belize Barrier Reef. Your tour will begin with a cruise from San Pedro. This trip is worth the boat trip alone – on your journey you’ll get to see Ambergris Caye’s incredible landscape from the sea.

When you reach the Mexico Rocks, the clear, shallow waters make an inviting space to look for exotic fish. This part of the ocean only gets to about 16 feet (5 m) deep. Since it’s not very deep, you can swim to the sandy bottom and see the fish that like to hide in the nooks of the rocks.

Grouper, barracuda, and sand sharks all have significant populations near Mexico Rocks. You’ll probably see a spiny lobster scuttling along, and eels poking their heads out from between the rocks. Colorful fish make this a popular spot to bring underwater cameras.

What to Bring

Traveler Comments

Our Guides, Elias and Nick, from Discovery Expedition Tours, were absolutely wonderful. We are beginners at snorkeling, and Elias was so helpful to make us feel safe and stayed within a few feet of us at all times. There was another couple on the boat who were diving, and Nick took them. Our only problem was getting picked up at our hotel, because when Anywhere changed our hotel, they didn't change this pick up, but Ramon's Village staff was super helpful and called to change, and all was fine. They showed us many underwater fish and creatures, as well as the coral reef there. I'm glad we went there, as Mexico Rocks is only 12 feet deep at the most, so we could see everything clearly.
